It changes the opinion of what kind of time period he's dealing with. No guns, but magic and mystical skill. Guns would have been feudal at best in that kind of world, bordering on the verge of some kind of steampunk setting. They probably don't have "machines" so much as "golem" or the like. His assumption at least.
"Rocks and crystal are already sturdy." But hearing there's magic to strengthen them isn't strange. Bakugo swims up to the larger rock that's pierced through the ship's hull. Definitely the fatal wound for this one. Then heads off to the surrounding area to pick through the human belongings that lie scattered around. "We don't have that kind of stuff in our world, though we've got stories about it."
