Oh, he absolutely does have those spells! He just doesn't use them much.

One of them seems to have strange ridges in it, and upon further inspection he makes out the shape of a long dead critter in it- he keeps the fossil, and looks around a little more. It would seem the fossil broke off from a large rock jutting out and into the ship.
"Very tall, with large glass windows. We also built giant spiral conductors upon them, to better channel our aether."
The horizon of anywhere Ancient-made would always have those spiral shapes woven into it.
"Many of the buildings were made of rocks and crystal- and they would have been impervious to time thanks to the magicks used to keep them sturdy."
Perhaps not impervious to the Final Days, but time would never have worn the buildings down. They needed the buildings to last forever, for they lived just as long!
