[Hythlodaeus smirks a little- the pet name is cute, though he's quite sure only older Ancients have ever called him sweetheart.]
If you'd like a drink, say as much when the waiter comes back.
[He doesn't personally think he needs a drink himself, but if Finnick wants one- well, it was his idea that landed them the money!]
Well, my job in particular involved approving and rejecting the concepts my brethren came up with. And those concepts could be anything- yes, they could be plants, but they could also be creatures or tools or toys. As Chief of the Bureau of the Architect, the entire Bureau of the Architect was under my guidance.
[His expression seems wistful and faraway as he speaks.]
You see, should another Ancient decide that he would create the petalouda, for example- the butterfly- it was then the job of those in Elpis to let it free into the testing grounds. There it would be free to do as it would usually do in its natural habitat, and mingle with other critters. This would all be recorded and sent to the Bureau of the Architect when the time came for evaluation, and we would use that information to decide if the creature would be a good fit for the world at large. The butterfly was a concept I gladly accepted, and they became a valuable part of nature.
