[Katsuki, coming from right before charging at All for One, had similar concerns, not sure if anything happening immediately was a Quirk of that glowing brat or something else to take him and All Might out, to say nothing of what All for One would do to make sure he got to Shigaraki. But everything that's happened so far, combining with Izuku's words, make it pretty damn clear this is not All for One, but something wholly different... and that makes it even more fucked up.
Assume the worst? Not always. He usually assumes more realistically while aiming for the goal, just like how he rationalized he and Izuku would never defeat All Might during their exam, but refused to give up (after a certain punch in the face) the ultimate goal of passing the exam. "The best" assumption would be to take down All Might... and Katsuki really had wanted to... but reality's a bitch. Izuku's no blind hopeful either. It's one of the reasons Katsuki trusts his analysis of this.
