It's... ( his lips part--there's a breath, almost a scoff, and immediately, he can feel the heat of embarrassment at the back of his neck, threatening to climb up into his ears. darting his chin down, he presses his mouth shut.
the words seem to escape despite himself, surprised and embarrassed-- )
...You're marrying... me?
( the thoughts seem to spiral, for a moment, like he can't hold onto them. no one had said anything about marriage, but then again, no one has really said anything about this place; there are roles to play, sure, which would mean that it isn't really a marriage in so much as it's just a play. just something to pass the time. to help.
steeling himself, he lifts his gaze again--he understands what he has to do now, but does this guy have to put it in such terrifying terms? at least he can feel some measure of mortifying humor from thinking about it. )
Right. Ah, my life isn't...much, but you can have it. ( that sounds like the proper sort of thing to say, right? he takes a step forward--and then stops, sliding his hands down towards the pockets of his trousers.
a predicament. )
I don't have a ring. ( solemnly--apologetically. )
